My journey to Tartan Studios began with a passion for photography. After filming several family weddings, I discovered a love for capturing the raw emotion and fleeting moments of these special days. I vividly remember my first wedding video – the nervous excitement of the couple, the heartfelt speeches, and the pure joy radiating from everyone. That experience ignited something within me, and I knew I had found my calling. Each wedding I film is a privilege, meticulously shaping every edit, carefully crafting a film that reflects the unique love story of each couple. From our initial consultation to the final delivery of your film, I am dedicated to providing a personalized and memorable experience.
About Me
My name is Shawn McLachlin, and I'm the Chief Memory Maker and Creative Story Curator here at Tartan Studios. My passion for capturing life's precious moments began at a young age. I was around 9 or 10 when I first discovered the magic of a film camera. Soon after, I graduated to a Sony Handycam, eagerly documenting family gatherings and festivities on 8mm tape – the laughter, the music, the joy of those moments forever preserved.
The arrival of our first digital camera was a revelation. The instant feedback, the ability to delete and try again, it unlocked a whole new level of creative freedom. By the time I started college, I had saved enough to buy my first DSLR, a Canon 60D. This camera taught me the foundations of photography – composition, lighting, capturing the perfect moment – skills I still use to this day.
Today, I bring that same passion and dedication to crafting wedding films that are as unique and beautiful as the couples I work with. My journey has taught me the importance of capturing authentic emotion, preserving those fleeting moments that tell the story of your love.
When I'm not behind the camera capturing wedding magic, you can find me exploring new corners of the world. I love to travel and document the beauty I find in different cultures and landscapes. Photography is my way of connecting with the world and sharing those experiences with others.
